The three main format of cricket, Tests, ODIs and T20s are different from each other and their strategies, time limits and sports style are also different. But great performance in these formats often opens new opportunities for players. If a player shows the best game in ODIs, then the chances of selection in his Test team increases. Often, the question arises in the minds of cricket fans that after winning how much a team gets a chance to play a Test match after winning.

Many people feel that it depends on the victory-defeat or performance of a team, but the reality is slightly different from it. Let us know what are the rules of ICC for this.

What does ICC rule say?

According to the rules of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the right to play Test cricket is given only to the full member countries. That is, the Test status is determined not by winning the match of a team but on their cricket structure, facilities and standards. Test cricket is known as the oldest and prestigious format in the world. In these five -day matches, there is a real test of players’ technology, fitness and mental strength.

But not every team gets this opportunity. For this, two levels have been created in the membership system of the ICC, full member and Associate Member. Only full members can play Test matches, while Associate member countries allow ODI or T20 International matches.

Which criteria sees ICC

The ICC sees many criteria to give Test status to a team. It first includes the domestic cricket structure of that country, quality of stadiums, economic status of the cricket board, number of players and demonstrations, government support and local development of cricket at the local level. If a country proves to be strong on all these aspects, then it is approved to play the test.

What was the tradition earlier

According to the reports, it was a tradition earlier that a team had to defeat at least five Test playing countries, but this rule never officially implemented. This was just an informal belief to decide whether the team is worth playing or not. In fact, countries like Afghanistan and Ireland were given Test status in 2018, while they had won a few winning in limited overs cricket to that time.

That is, overall it can be said that a country gets the opportunity to play a Test match, not by the count of victory but on the foundation of cricket. When a team prepares itself at every level, then it is allowed to land on the biggest stage of cricket.
