This time the festival of Diwali was celebrated openly and in a grand manner for the first time in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). In this event organized at the NRSC Club campus of the university, students illuminated the campus by lighting 2100 lamps. The words ‘AMU’, ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Shubh Diwali’ were beautifully decorated with lamps. This event was not only about showcasing the pomp and show of the festival of lights, but also giving the message of unity, harmony and cultural harmony.
Strict security arrangements were made on this occasion. ID cards of students were checked for admission and the program was conducted systematically on the campus. The lighting of lamps started at dusk, when students reached the streets decorated with rangoli, flowers and lamps. During the program, the girl students decorated Rangoli and lamps, while the students made the atmosphere more festive with fireworks and cultural performances.
Deepotsav celebrated with pomp in AMU
The most attractive scene of the festival of lights was when 2100 lamps were lit simultaneously. Colorful fireworks in the sky transformed the entire university into a fair. The fireworks of ‘Special Army Bharat Tank’ attracted everyone’s attention. During this, 21 kg sweets were distributed and the students wished each other a happy Diwali by feeding them sweets.
Diwali is celebrated every year in the university – Wasim Ahmed
AMU Proctor Wasim Ahmed said that the festival of Diwali is celebrated every year in the university. This time the students asked for permission and were given permission. Earlier students used to celebrate Diwali in their hostels only. Proctor said that we wish the students all the best and feel happy to participate in this celebration.

Hindu student Akhil Kaushal, who participated in the Deepotsav, described it as a proud moment for him. He said that celebrating Diwali openly in the university after so many years is a new beginning. The student said that AMU has shown that it is not just an educational institute but a family where every festival is celebrated together.
In the programme, students dressed in traditional attire presented songs, poems and bhajans with slogans like ‘Light the lamp andera mitao’ and ‘Ek lamp souhard ke naam’. As the sounds of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ echoed, the entire complex was filled with reverence and joy. This event gave the message that education and culture can go together and unity in diversity is possible.
