Union Home Minister Amit Shah took stock of the flood situation arising after heavy rains in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. He spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over phone and got detailed information about the situation. Due to heavy rain overnight in Rajouri district, a flood like situation has arisen in many areas. Due to this, life has been affected and the administration is engaged in relief and rescue operations. Expressing concern over the situation in the affected areas, Home Minister Amit Shah directed the officials to take necessary steps.
Torrential rain overnight in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir has caused huge devastation. After heavy rains that started around 1 o’clock in the night, there were sudden floods in many areas, due to which life was completely affected. Due to floods and landslides, many people lost their lives, dozens of vehicles were destroyed and many families are being evacuated to safe places.

Flood in Darhali River
According to officials, after the water level of Rajouri river rose rapidly, its water entered Bela Colony. Within no time the entire area was submerged in water. Many vehicles parked at Bela bus stand were washed away in the strong current. Many houses were flooded and people were trapped in their homes. There have also been reports of loss of livestock in Bela Colony and surrounding areas. Flood in Darhali river has caused huge damage in Bela area of Rajouri. Parks, bus stands and other public places in the area have been damaged. Churung, Rajdhani and Behrot areas of Thanna Mandi sub-division have also been badly affected by the sudden floods. Information has also been received that some laborers working in a crusher unit located in Behrot are trapped.
Cloud burst incidents came to light
Incidents of cloud burst have been reported in Kotli Kalaban and Golinari areas of Manjakot tehsil. In the strong flood that followed, the local cemetery was completely washed away and many graves were destroyed. There is an atmosphere of deep sorrow and concern among the local people due to this incident. Due to floods, vehicles were submerged at many places and many buildings were damaged. The India Meteorological Department had issued a warning a day earlier regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rains and flash floods. The administration has sent relief and rescue teams to the affected areas. Officials have appealed to people living in low-lying areas and around reservoirs to remain alert and move to safe places.
