The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 was also approved by President Draupadi Murmu after passing from both houses of Parliament, but the protest has not stopped yet. So far 6 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court against the Waqf law, which is expected to hear soon. On Monday (April 7, 2025), Rajya Sabha MP and Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal has requested a early hearing in the case in the Supreme Court, on which Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna has also assured to hear.
Advocate Kapil Sibal appeared in court on behalf of petitioner Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind. He said, “We oppose the amendments made in the Waqf law and demand a quick hearing.”
Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna said that the arrangement has already been maintained for the request for early hearing. You did not need to keep it here. The CJI said, “I will look at these requests in the afternoon and take a decision on the hearing of the case.” He has assured to hear, so far 6 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court against the Waqf Amendment Act. The petitioners can demand early hearing from the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court today.
