Goyal will be on Canada tour from 25 to 27 May. A big business delegation has also reached Canada with him. The purpose of this visit is to strengthen economic and trade relations between India and Canada. India and Canada are aiming to increase bilateral trade to $50 billion in the next five years.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said, ‘Met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and extended warm greetings to him on behalf of Prime Minister Modi. Recalling his recent visit to India, he said that this visit has provided new momentum and new confidence to the India-Canada partnership.

He further said, ‘Our conversation focused on future possibilities. Steps being taken to further deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries were discussed. Also, hope has been expressed that the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) will be finalized soon, which will open new opportunities for development and progress for both the countries.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said, we are negotiating a Free Trade Agreement with India. This will be a game-changer for Canadian workers and businesses and will open up a huge new market. We are moving forward fast. I met Minister Piyush Goyal to review the progress made so far and discussed the opportunities available to both our countries in the areas of energy, agri-food, technology and education.
