After the announcement of the Indian T20 team on Saturday, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Vaibhav Suryavanshi has selected himself in the team due to his strong performance in IPL 2026.
Regarding Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who won the Orange Cap by scoring the most runs in IPL 2026, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar said in the press conference, “We have seen what he can do. He single-handedly led Rajasthan Royals to victory in the IPL till the playoffs. For a young player, I don’t need to talk about how well he is batting or how well he is playing. It is not just about this season. He has clearly shown the potential in the last season. It was a great start.”
He further added, “Vaibhav Suryavanshi has shown on a big, high-pressure stage like the IPL, what he can do and how explosive he can be. We have high expectations from him. I think he has really picked himself up. We can all see what kind of talent he has. We hope that when he gets a chance to play for the country, he will show the same ability that he has shown. Obviously, it is a tough challenge when you play for your country, but he has done very well.” He has shown temperament and forced us to choose him.
The chief selector said, “I think we are very excited about what he is doing in T20 cricket. We as selectors or the BCCI and the coaching staff can help him move in the right direction.”
