The US military carried out new air strikes on a military base in Iran on Wednesday night. A US official told Reuters that the action was taken against a base that was considered a threat to US forces and commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The official also said that the US military also shot down several Iranian drones, which were considered a potential threat.
The action was kept confidential
The official said on condition of anonymity that information about these attacks was not made public earlier. This action has taken place at a time when talks are going on to end the war that has been going on for three months. Thousands of people have died in this conflict that started with the attacks by America and Israel on February 28 and a sharp increase in global energy prices has also been recorded.
Trump’s statement regarding Hormuz Strait
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday rejected a report by Iranian state media which claimed that under the peace deal, Iran and Oman will jointly manage shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump clearly said that this important sea route will remain open.
There were attacks on Monday also
Earlier on Monday also, America had carried out attacks against Iran in the name of ‘defensive action’. Iran had described these attacks as a violation of the fragile ceasefire implemented between the two countries. According to the US Army’s Central Command, the operation targeted boats attempting to lay mines and missile launch sites that were considered a threat to US forces.
