Suspected Kuki militants launched a rocket attack in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Tuesday, killing two children and injuring their mother. Seeing the increasing uproar, internet has been suspended in five districts.

According to the government order, in view of the prevailing law and order situation, the Manipur government has ordered temporary suspension of internet and mobile data services in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur districts for 3 days with immediate effect.

The incident occurred around 1 am when a bomb thrown by suspected militants hit a house in Moirang Tronglaobi. A five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl died in the explosion. Local residents demonstrated against this incident.

When did the attack happen? Police told

The police officer said that both the children and their mother were sleeping when the bomb exploded in the house. Local residents protested against the incident and set fire to two oil tankers and a truck near a petrol pump in the area. The protesters burnt tires in front of Moirang police station and also damaged a temporary police post.

CM said- barbaric act, conspiracy to disturb peace and order

The official said that security forces have been deployed in the area to keep the situation under control. Chief Minister Y. Khemchand said that this attack is a ‘barbaric act’. He said that this is a ‘direct attack on humanity and an attempt to spoil the peace and order maintained with great difficulty in Manipur.

Singh said, ‘I condemn this in the strongest terms. There should be no doubt that those responsible will be identified, traced and strict action will be taken as per the law. Such terrorist acts will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He also appealed to the people to remain united and stand strong against those elements who try to disturb the collective harmony. Moirang Tronglaobi, located in the low-lying area, is near the hilly areas of Churachandpur and was the site of frequent firing incidents during the height of the ethnic conflict in 2023 and 2024. Another official said that an explosive device was also recovered from the area near Troglobi on Tuesday.
