Citing the news of US President Donald Trump reprimanding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Congress on Tuesday (June 2, 2026) said that the Israeli attack in Lebanon is being condemned all-round, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi is maintaining silence on it.
Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, indirectly quoting a statement given by Prime Minister Modi a few months ago, asked whether ‘Fatherland’ matters more to him than ‘Motherland’? Jairam Ramesh posted on social media platform X, ‘Talks are going on between America and Iran to stop war in West Asia. The immediate impact of such an agreement would mean reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and downward pressure on oil prices, both of which India has great interests in.
He said, ‘But the talks have not reached conclusion, mainly because of Israel’s continuous military action in Lebanon, which has seen large-scale infiltration. President Trump himself has expressed extreme disappointment and anger towards Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in profanity-filled language. Many other countries are condemning Israel’s attack in Lebanon.

Jairam Ramesh said, ‘It is no surprise that when Israel is moving forward to destroy Lebanon and harm the US-Iran agreement, the head of the government who has maintained complete silence is Prime Minister Narendra Modi.’
He questioned whether the so-called fatherland meant more to him than his actual motherland? An American media report said that last Monday, during a phone conversation with Netanyahu, Trump reprimanded him for Israeli military action in Lebanon. It has been said in the news that Trump told Netanyahu, ‘You have gone completely crazy. If it wasn’t for me you would have been in jail. I am saving your life. Because of you, everyone hates Israel.
