Why Watery Diarrhea Happens After Constipation: If you have ever felt that first you had watery diarrhea and then constipation continued for several days, then it can be difficult to ignore it as a normal digestion problem. This situation may create confusion, but according to experts, there may be a serious health problem hidden behind it, which is very important to be identified in time.
problem of overflow diarrhea
Dr. Joseph Salhab, a board-certified gastroenterologist from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, recently shared information on this topic, explaining that sometimes a person feels like they have diarrhea, when in reality they are suffering from severe constipation. This condition is called overflow diarrhea in medical language.
What could be the problem with this?
According to Dr. Joseph Salhab, overflow diarrhea may sound like a problem like diarrhea, but it is actually a form of constipation. He told that when hard stool remains accumulated in the large intestine for a long time and it is not able to come out, then only water makes a path around that stool and comes out. Since this water has no solid shape, it appears like diarrhea. Sudden watery diarrhea after not having a bowel movement for several days can be a sign of this condition.
Which symptoms should not be ignored?
Experts say that along with this problem, there may also be complaints like stomach ache, flatulence, nausea, leakage of stool and frequent loose stools. If such symptoms appear, you should immediately contact a doctor. Severe cases may require investigation in hospital, which may include a physical examination, abdominal X-ray, CT scan, blood tests and other tests.

Cancer can also be a problem
Experts have also warned that in some cases, colon cancer can also manifest as symptoms like overflow diarrhea. Due to shrinkage or blockage in the colon, problems like constipation and diarrhea may appear. If there are symptoms like rapid weight loss, blood in stool, anemia, severe stomach pain, vomiting or continuously increasing constipation, then they should not be ignored at all. Dr. Joseph Salhab says that one should not try to treat such symptoms on one’s own. If the problem is persistent or severe, the safest option is to get proper testing and medical advice.
