However, the nature of those dreams largely depends on when a person lost his ability to see. Scientific studies show that people who are blind from birth or since childhood have a very different dream experience from those who become blind later in life.

People who are born blind or lose their vision by the age of four or five do not have stored visual memories. That is why they do not dream in the form of images, colors or faces. Instead, their brain creates dreams using information gathered through other senses. Their dreams are made up of sounds, touch, smells, tastes and emotions rather than visual scenes.
Dreams full of sound and touch
For people who are blind from birth, hearing in dreams plays the biggest role. Conversations, voices, music and everyday sounds are often central to their dream experience. Touch is also an important part of their dreams. They can perceive the shapes of objects, different textures, temperatures, or even physical sensations in the same way that blind people experience visual images.

Dreams may include favorite foods as well as the smell of flowers, familiar places, or even food. Emotions like happiness, pain, excitement and anxiety remain as high as they are for people with normal vision. According to research conducted by Danish researchers and the Slip Foundation, the dreams of people who have been blind from birth include the experience of hearing in about 86% of the cases and the experience of touch in about 70% of the cases.
Dreams of blind people later
For people who lose their eyesight after the age of 5 to 7 years, the experience of dreaming completely changes. Because they have already formed visual memories during childhood, they can see people, places and colors in their dreams.
Along with this, research also shows that visually impaired people are almost four times more likely to have nightmares than blind people.
