The selection panel of the England Cricket Board’s senior men’s team on Monday announced a 17-member squad for the 5-match T20 series against India. Harry Brook is the captain, many players including Saqib Mahmood have returned. Along with experienced players like Jos Buttler and Joffra Archer, a new face in the form of James Coles is also in the team.
Sonny Baker, Jordan Cox and Saqib Mahmood have returned to the team. These three players were not part of the T20 World Cup team held this year. Brayden Carse and Jamie Overton are not part of the team due to injury.
James Coles’ first series
Uncapped all-rounder James Coles has been selected in the England national team for the first time. Selector Marcus North said, “James Coles is a fantastic player and has earned his place in the team on the basis of his good performances in the England Lions and T20 competitions at home and abroad over the last 12 months.” Regarding the selected big team of 17 players, he said, “We have selected a big team because this series will start immediately after the end of the Test series against New Zealand, which gives us flexibility in choosing the team.”
