Exports, Trump’s visit to India and calls for friendship… America is desperate for a deal with Delhi, Sergio Gore is leaving no chance.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore said that the India-US trade agreement is almost complete, only the last 1 or 2 percent of the legal text is being negotiated. Dismissing rumors of diplomatic differences, Gore on Monday announced that an India-US bilateral trade deal is on the verge of completion.

Addressing delegates at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Leadership Summit 2026, Gore expressed high hopes for the relationship between the two countries. The trade agreement, which was being prepared for about 18 months, recently faced administrative delay due to the intervention of the court. Gore assured the concerned parties that the recent 2-day visit of US Trade Representative Ambassador Jameson Lee Greer to Delhi has succeeded in resolving the issue.

According to news agency ANI, the US Ambassador said that the US Mission in India has helped bring a huge new investment of $ 20.5 billion in America this year alone, leaving behind its European counterparts. He further said that we have been working on this trade deal for one and a half years. The European trade deal took 20 years. Whatever happens, as long as we’re doing better than the European deal, I think we’re in good shape.

What did you say by giving the example of Europe?
Gore said that we have very beautiful embassies in Europe and he comes on stage and says we are proud to announce $500 million. Some say that we are proud to announce $700 million, whereas our embassy in New Delhi has announced new investment of $20.5 billion this year.

Mentioned about Trump’s visit to India
Regarding the two-hour private meeting with Donald Trump in Washington, Gore said that the President is fully committed to this strategic alliance. His memories related to India are very good. His last trip was the most memorable one, about which he still talks. He further said that he (Trump) likes India very much and hence I hope that at some point of time he will visit India again.

Gore said that the future of the world depends to a great extent on areas like deep technology, defense integration and Artificial Intelligence (AI). He said that my aim is to take advantage of these possibilities and bring both the parties together. In the end it is a win-win situation for both.

‘India sells most goods to America’
He said that India exports more goods and services to America than any other country in the world. In terms of defense cooperation, America conducts more joint military and defense exercises with India than any other global partner. Gore stressed that the focus of both the governments is now on meeting the mega bilateral trade target of $500 billion, which was initiated by President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
