The Indian cricket team got a clean sweep in the two-match T20 series against Ireland, in which the coach and captain are being criticized a lot for not playing Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Sunil Gavaskar is also included in this list, who wanted to see the 15-year-old batsman’s debut against Ireland. Now he gave a big statement and said that without any delay, Vaibhav should be made to debut in the first T20 against England to be held on 1st July.

In an interview given to a media channel, Sunil Gavaskar said, “Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge were the new players in the second match. Prince bowled well and took 3 wickets and got only one ball to play, in which he hit a six. About a month ago, I had said that Vaibhav Suryavanshi should be played in both the matches to be held in Ireland, because he is in excellent form.”

According to Gavaskar, Abhishek Sharma could have been dropped in one match and Sanju Samson could have been dropped in the other. He said, “You could have played Abhishek Sharma in one match and Sanju Samson in the other match, we could have done so but we did not. It is not necessary that if Vaibhav Suryavanshi had been there then victory would have been guaranteed, it was possible that he would have been out on 10-15 runs only. But if we wanted to try young players, we could have played Vaibhav in both these matches.”

Vaibhav Suryavanshi gets a chance in the first match against England

Sunil Gavaskar further said, “He will have to be played in the very first match against England to be held on July 1, it is a simple matter. Leave out your batsmen who are not in form and give a chance to Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Those who are your openers now, play them at 1-2, you can send Vaibhav at number-3. But he will have to be given a chance in the very first match.”

However, Sunil Gavaskar defended the openers, who could not even open their account in the second match against Ireland. According to him, any middle order batsman can be dropped and Vaibhav Suryavanshi can be played. He said, “Your opening pair has performed better in the last one and a half years, so it is not right to drop them after two matches.”

Gavaskar said, “Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are fine, but drop some middle-order batsman and give a chance to Vaibhav Suryavanshi. This is necessary to give a shock to England in the first match. Because if he walks in the first match, the England team will be shaken. Right now, after the Ireland series, England may be a little overconfident. The way Ireland took advantage of our team’s overconfidence, we can lift England.”
