Will prices increase after the elections?

Meanwhile, there is also a ‘good news’ for the people of the country. In fact, the central government said on Tuesday that it has no intention of increasing the prices of petrol and diesel. The government has rejected speculations that prices may increase after voting ends in West Bengal on April 29.

Retail petrol and diesel prices have remained unchanged for the fourth consecutive year, while crude oil prices have increased by more than 50 percent in the last two months due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

The increasing difference between the cost of raw materials and the selling price at the pump is causing huge losses to government oil companies. According to some estimates, they are incurring a loss of around Rs 2400 crore every day. Due to this, speculations have intensified that prices may increase soon after the end of assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry on Wednesday.
