Tears were seen in the eyes of Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf at the farewell meeting of late Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. With folded hands in prayer, Ghalibaf became emotional while bidding his last farewell. Ghalibaf, who was the main negotiator on behalf of Iran in the talks with the US, was seen standing with Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials. Araghchi looked emotional when people gathered at Khamenei’s farewell meeting.
On Friday, Khamenei’s coffin was brought to the Grand Mosallah religious complex in Tehran. Khamenei’s coffin was wrapped in the colors of the Islamic Republic. Let us tell you that Khamenei ruled the Islamic Republic of Iran for about 36 years.
Ghalibaf appealed to the people on Friday (July 3) to take part in these programs in large numbers and in a way take revenge for the murder of the Supreme Leader. He said, “The country’s call for revenge should be heard by the entire world.” 15 to 20 million people are expected to attend Khamenei’s six-day long funeral programs, due to which a high security alert has been issued across the country and especially around the capital Tehran.
Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28, 2026 in joint attacks by America and Israel. In late February, the US-Israel coalition attacked Tehran, in which he was killed along with many other members of his family. After these attacks, there was war in the Middle East.

Procession will take place in Tehran and Qom
A funeral procession will be taken out on the streets of Tehran on Monday. After this, another procession will be taken out in the holy city of Qom. Qom, located about 140 kilometers south-west of Tehran, is Iran’s main center of Shia Islamic education.
On July 9, the procession will travel to the holy city of Mashhad, Khamenei’s hometown, where he will be buried at the Imam Reza shrine. During this period, tribute meetings will also be organized in the historical holy cities of Najaf and Karbala of neighboring country Iraq.
