Under this scheme, students are given financial assistance ranging from Rs 20 thousand to Rs 30 thousand every year, so that they can continue their studies without any financial hassle.

The special thing is that this scheme is not limited only to school or college level, but students doing Diploma, Graduation, Post Graduation, MPhil and PhD also get its benefit. Who gets how much amount?
Under NEC Merit Scholarship, different amounts are given according to the level of studies. Students doing diploma course get Rs 20,000 annually. Students studying in graduation or degree course are given Rs 22,000 per year. Whereas post graduation students get an assistance of Rs 25,000 and students doing MPhil or PhD get an assistance of Rs 30,000 per year.
This amount directly helps in reducing the expenses related to the students’ education. Many students avail this assistance for books, study material, hostel fees and other academic needs.
Who can apply?
Some important conditions have been set to avail the benefit of this scholarship. First of all, the applicant must be a permanent resident of any one of the eight states of North-East India. This includes Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
Apart from this, the student will have to secure at least 60 percent marks in the previous qualifying examination. That means this scholarship is given to those students who have performed well in studies.
The family income should also be within the prescribed limit.
The total annual income of the parents or guardian of the student applying for the scholarship should not exceed Rs 8 lakh. The aim of the government is to help the meritorious students who come from economically weak or middle class families and want to continue further studies.
Must be enrolled in a recognized institute
It is necessary for the applicant to be enrolled in a recognized university, college or institute. Students studying in courses like Diploma, Degree, Post Graduation, MPhil and PhD can apply for this scheme. Students studying in unrecognized institutions will not get this benefit.

Apply online like this
Application for NEC Merit Scholarship is done through a completely online process. Interested students will have to apply by visiting the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) of the Government of India. First of all students have to complete One Time Registration (OTR).
After this the necessary documents will have to be uploaded. These include Aadhar card, bonafide certificate, income certificate and other necessary documents. After filling all the information correctly the application form can be submitted online.
Will have to apply every year
A special thing about this scholarship is that not only the new students, but also the students already taking benefits have to apply for renewal every year. Therefore, students who are already taking advantage of this scheme should fill their renewal form on time.
