North Korea on Sunday conducted another test of strategic cruise missiles and anti-warship missiles from its destroyer Choe Hyon. This information was given by state media Korean Central News Agency (KNCA) on Tuesday (April 14). According to the report, their supreme leader Kim Jong Un was also present during this period. He inspected the test along with senior defense officials and naval commanders.
According to KNCA, the purpose of this test was to test the warship’s integrated weapon command system, train the crew missile launch procedure and test the upgraded navigation system and verify anti-jamming performance. For this, two strategic cruise missiles and three anti-warship missiles were fired. The missiles destroyed the target with ‘ultra-precision’ accuracy.
Cruise missiles near the country’s west coast flew for about 7,869 to 7,920 seconds and anti-warship missiles flew for about 1,960 to 1,973 seconds. According to the report, he hit his target with great accuracy. KNCA reported that Kim was briefed on weapon system plans for two more destroyers under construction the same day, indicating preparations for the third and fourth Choe Hyon-class ships.
Kim Jong’s strict instructions
Kim Jong Un said that his first priority is to increase the country’s nuclear power so that no one can attack him. He has asked his army to be prepared for attack and improve its ability to take immediate action in any situation.
construction of new destroyers
Pyongyang previously conducted the first test of a 5,000-ton Choe Hyon-class warship in April 2025, and in June, Kim announced plans to build two additional destroyers in 2026 and add two ships of the same or more advanced class each year.
According to Professor Lim Yul Chul, for the first time the government has officially admitted that they are building the fourth destroyer ship. Earlier there were only discussions about it, but now it has been confirmed.
“The mention of the third and fourth destroyers shows that North Korea is accelerating the formation of a fleet of destroyers rather than deploying isolated platforms,” Lim said. He further said that after initial testing is successful, production usually starts rapidly.
‘The entire fleet will be ready’
Professor Lim says that North Korea is no longer building just isolated warships, but is rapidly building an entire fleet of these ships. He believes that after the initial tests were successful, North Korea has now started producing them on a large scale.
advantage of global instability
Professor Lim says that the world’s attention is currently on the wars in the Middle East. North Korea is taking advantage of this opportunity. He thinks that when the world is busy on the other side, then quietly make his nuclear weapons and the missiles carrying them so powerful that they can never be destroyed again.
