There was a dispute regarding Mustafizur Rahman
In the auction held for the 2026 season, Kolkata Knight Riders bought Bangladesh’s Muslim fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for a price of Rs 9.20 crore. After the auction, amid the ongoing protests in Bangladesh, reports of oppression and atrocities on Hindus came to light.
After this there was a protest in India that Bangladeshi players should not be given a chance to play in IPL. In view of the growing opposition, BCCI decided that Bangladeshi players will not be played in the tournament. BCCI instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to release Mustafizur. Acting as per the instructions, the franchise released Mustafizur. After this incident, Bangladesh had refused to play T20 World Cup matches in India.
