India has once again stood first to help Russia, which is embroiled in the war with Ukraine. Many oil refineries of Russia were affected due to Ukraine’s drone attack, due to which India is supplying gasoline to Moscow. Amidst the crisis arising out of Ukraine attack, Russia has started importing gasoline from India via sea route.

India sent about 80 thousand tons of petrol

According to Reuters report, petrol sales are being limited in many areas due to damage caused to Russian oil refineries. At many places, there are long queues at petrol pumps and prices have reached record levels. President Vladimir Putin himself said on Sunday (28 June 2026) that Russia is in contact with other countries to import fuel at the right prices. The report claims that about 60,000 metric tons of petrol has been sent to Russia from India. It was sent through two big tankers, each loaded with 30,000 to 40,000 tonnes of petrol.

Russia will buy 4 lakh tons of petrol every month

Russia is planning to import a total of 4 lakh tonnes of petrol from different countries every month. According to the report, it is not yet clear which Indian refinery is supplying this petrol to Russia. Belarus is also helping Russia overcome the fuel crisis. In the first 15 days of June, Belarus has tripled the supply of petrol to Moscow by rail to more than 70,000 tonnes.

Russia sent record crude oil to India in June

Russia has also made changes in its tax system to deal with the fuel crisis. Under the new rule, it has been decided to give subsidy on fuel import based on India’s delivery cost and prices. Due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, India purchased crude oil from Russia at a record level in the month of June. According to data from Kpler and LSEG, more than half of India’s total oil imports in June came from Russia alone. Whereas in May 2026, India had purchased 36.5 percent oil from Russia.
