India has left China behind in this matter. India now has 3,11,936 sailors in the world’s maritime workforce. India’s share in the global maritime workforce has increased to 12.16 percent. Only Philippines is ahead of India. After India comes China, Russia and Indonesia.

How many sailors from India?
According to this report, there are 1,40,718 officers among the total sailors of India. This is 13.41 percent of the total maritime officers in the world. There are 1,71,218 Indian ratings, which is 11.29 percent of the ratings working on merchant ships around the world. Ratings refer to those personnel working on the ship who handle various technical and support responsibilities.

What was India’s share in 10 years?
This achievement of India is also being considered special because India’s share in the global maritime workforce has more than doubled in the last decade. India’s share was 5.2 percent in the year 2015, which increased to about 6 percent in the year 2021. Not only this, this share will further increase to 12.16 percent in the year 2026.
