Important bilateral talks took place between PM Narendra Modi and Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker on Thursday (April 16) at Hyderabad House in Delhi. This meeting was organized with the aim of strengthening the relations between the two countries. Christian Stocker is on his first official tour of India from 14 to 17 April.
Both the leaders addressed a joint press conference. During this, PM Modi said that the Chancellor of Austria and your delegation are welcome to India. Today the whole world is going through global tension. It has affected both our countries also. Both our countries agree that today any problem in the world cannot be solved through weapons.
Issues should be resolved peacefully- PM Modi
PM Modi said that all issues should be resolved with peace and harmony in the world. Be it Ukraine dispute or Central Asia conflict. Besides, reform of global institutions is also necessary.
India’s important role at the global level – Austria
Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker said that we are in favor of peace in the world. We want a world where everyone is heard, not just ‘might is right’. We want to resolve all disputes through dialogue. He further said that in all these issues, since India is a major country at the global level, we see an important role for you. We are also on the same level on the issue of terrorism and these issues are not limited to any one country.
What issues were discussed
During the meeting, both the leaders discussed increasing cooperation in trade, investment, green technology, digital innovation and emerging sectors. Apart from this, global and regional issues were also discussed. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged between the two countries. This high level meeting is considered important towards further strengthening bilateral relations.
Before this, Chancellor Stocker went to Rajghat and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. This tour is being seen as giving a new direction to India-Austria partnership. Foreign Minister Jaishankar and Union Minister Piyush Goyal were also present in the meeting.
