Jacob Bethel single-handedly defeated Team India in the second T20 played in Manchester. Now you must be wondering how a player can single-handedly defeat a team, then let us tell you that this happened in Manchester on Saturday. 22-year-old Jacob Bethel proved to be a one-man army for England in the second T20 in Manchester on Saturday. He played an unbeaten match-winning inning of 76 runs in 46 balls. India had to face defeat in this match, whereas at one time Team India was winning the match easily.
After the match, when Jacob Bethel was asked where this innings ranked among his favorite innings for England, he said, “I would put this near the top. As a batsman, returning unbeaten with a win and shaking hands with my teammates, it doesn’t get much better than that. I have scored a few centuries, but only one of them was going to win. We lost in Australia, lost in India, so after those matches, I always thought what else could I have done, but Today I am very happy. We were ahead of India by 1-0, so it felt good to win against them. This has given me a lot of confidence for the last three matches.
After the 16th over, Bethel was playing after scoring 42 runs on 36 balls when he decisively turned the match in favor of England. He hit three sixes and a four in the 17th over of Ravi Bishnoi (which also included two no-balls) and scored 29 runs. After this he also hit a six off the ball of Harshit Rana. He scored 34 runs on his last 10 balls.
Bethel said, “When chasing such a target, you do not play aggressively all the time. It is just a matter of scoring more runs in a few big overs and then the match changes.” Bethel came to bat at number four when both England’s openers were out without opening the account and the team’s score was two wickets for one run in five balls. He said, I was quite calm. When Brookie (Harry Brook) went to bat, I said, ‘Play well, Harry’, and then after a few balls I also came on the field. Jos (Buttler) was unlucky but it feels strange to come on the field with two wickets down at a low score. Brooke handled that situation incredibly.” Let us tell you that England captain Harry Brook played an aggressive inning of 39 runs in just 15 balls with four fours and three sixes, due to which the team was successful in recovering from the initial setbacks.
