This attack by Israel took place on Friday (May 29, 2026), just a day before the important talks to be held in the US capital Washington, which has further increased the tension on the already fragile ceasefire between the two countries.
This attack by the Israeli Air Force took place on an apartment building located in Beirut, but it was not immediately clear who was targeted in this attack. Video posted on social media from Shuefat, a suburb near Beirut’s international airport, showed white smoke rising from a residential area.

Due to this air strike by Israel, tension is increasing in southern Lebanon, where in the last few days Israeli soldiers have crossed the Litani River and have advanced and have warned the residents there to evacuate most of the area. In recent days, Israel has intensified its attacks on Lebanon. This has been the deadliest day since the ceasefire agreement brokered by Washington came into effect on April 17 last month.
The first security talks are going to be held between the two sides tomorrow
Military officials of Lebanon and Israel are going to hold their first security talks in the US capital Washington on Friday (May 29, 2026). Due to these talks, the fragile ceasefire which came into effect on April 17 has moved forward. However, since then the attacks have intensified, while Beirut has been largely spared from these attacks.
Hezbollah has rejected these talks outright and has instead supported its key ally Iran. Iran has made ending the war in Lebanon a condition for its own talks with Washington, brokered by Pakistan.
