In the letter, Mamata Banerjee has requested the Election Commission that TMC’s rival faction leader Ritabrata Banerjee should not be given more time to respond to the claims related to authorized signatories and organizational elections.

The ongoing dispute within the party deepened on July 2, 2026, when the faction led by Ritabrata approached the Election Commission, calling itself the real Trinamool Congress (AITC). This group had said that it had informed the Commission after the special session held on June 22 and requested to recognize the alleged changes made in the organization.

Election Commission sought answers from both the groups on the claims.

According to PTI, after this claim, the Election Commission had sent letters to both Mamata Banerjee and Ritabrata Banerjee asking them to file their respective replies. The Mamata Banerjee-led faction filed its reply on July 6, 2026, while the Election Commission had given Ritabrata Banerjee’s faction time till 5:30 pm (5:30 pm) on July 10, 2026, to file its reply.

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in a letter to the Election Commission on Sunday (July 12), ‘Despite July 10 and almost two days after that, no reply has been sent from Ritabrata Banerjee yet.’ The Election Commission had asked both the parties to send information about their respective answers to each other.

The former Chief Minister alleged, ‘Even after 48 hours have passed since July 10, your office is maintaining complete silence, which is giving more opportunity to Ritabrata Banerjee and this shows your inclination towards his malicious purpose. Therefore, I request that the reply filed by me be considered expeditiously and Ritabrata Banerjee should not be given any more time.
