NCERT has released the new book of Social Science for class 8. This time changes have been made in many parts of history. Especially the chapters related to the partition of India, role of Congress, VD Savarkar, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Quit India Movement have been written in a new way. This book will now be taught from the academic session 2026-27.
Changes in many chapters of history
In the new book, many parts related to the freedom struggle have been written differently than before. Some old information has been removed and some new information has also been added. However, NCERT did not clearly explain why these changes were made in the history chapter.
what changed after partition
It has been said in the new book that the partition of India did not happen only because of differences between two communities. It has also been written in it that Congress had also opposed the partition on a large scale and at that time there was no uniform opinion on this decision in the entire country. It has also been told that even today there are different opinions on whether accepting the partition was the right decision or not.
some old things were removed
It was written in the earlier book that Congress leaders were feeling helpless during the violence that took place during partition. This part has been removed from the new book. However, Mahatma Gandhi’s sad views on violence are still kept in the book.
Savarkar and Arvind Ghosh also mentioned
Now mention of Aurobindo Ghosh and VD Savarkar has also been added in the new book. It is told that Aurobindo Ghosh had raised the demand for Swaraj in 1908 and VD Savarkar in 1925. Earlier in this part only Maulana Hasrat Mohani, Jawaharlal Nehru and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose were mentioned.

Changes in the chapter on Netaji
Changes have also been made in the part related to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Earlier in the book there was mention of Adolf Hitler and Nazi ideology. His name has been removed from the new book. Now it is only written that Netaji had tried to take help from the countries hostile to Britain in the fight against the British.
What’s new in Quit India Movement
Changes have also been made in the chapter on Quit India Movement. Earlier the names of leaders like Gandhi, Nehru and Sardar Patel were written. Now instead it is written that almost the entire leadership of the Congress was arrested. Besides, the roles of Ram Manohar Lohia and Jaiprakash Narayan have also been explained in detail.
NCERT says that changes are made in the books based on the suggestions received from time to time and the opinion of experts. According to the organization, the books are revised as and when required to provide better and updated information to the students. However, NCERT has not made any separate comment on the changes made in the history chapter.
