UPI Without Internet: UPI has completely changed the way of digital payment in India. Now, even if there is no internet, the way to make payment through UPI can open. Recently, National Payments Corporation of India announced that it is working on a new technology through which UPI payments can be made in shops, flights and underground metro even without internet. If this facility is started, then the problem of payment failure due to poor network or lack of internet will definitely end.
How will the new system work?
According to media reports, this new feature will be based on near field communication, that is, you will not need to scan the QR Code. You just have to tap your NFC supported smartphone on the machine and the payment will be done. The most important thing is that during this period it will not be necessary to have internet in your phone nor in the shopkeeper’s POS machine.

You can make payment up to Rs 2,000
Initially, up to Rs 2,000 can be paid at one time. For this, first the user will have to load money in his UPI Lite wallet while being on the internet. Later, payment can be made from the same balance without internet. The settings will be such that there will be no need to enter UPI PIN always.
Maximum benefit in flight and metro
Even today, many times internet does not work inside the flight or in the underground metro. In such a situation, it becomes difficult to make digital payments. NPCI is bringing this feature especially for those places where there is no network. This means that in future, whether you want to buy food during the flight or make payment at the metro station, payment can be made through UPI even in the absence of internet. To use it, not only the customers’ phones but also the shopkeepers’ POS terminals must be certified for the new system. According to media reports, NPCI may soon start certification of such terminals. After this, banks and UPI app companies will also add this facility to their apps.

When will it be launched?
Currently this feature is in the development stage and is not yet available to the general public. Its official launch date has not been announced by NPCI. However, according to reports, work on this technology is going on rapidly and it can be started in a phased manner in the coming time. If this facility is started, UPI will become more convenient than ever. Digital payment can be done easily even during bad network, airplane mode or travel.
