India has taken a tough stance on Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif’s statement threatening India with the Indus Water Treaty and war. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Pakistan makes such statements to hide its failures and divert attention from human rights violations. He said that India strongly rejects these fabricated claims. During this, he drew the attention of the world towards the protests taking place in PoK and the wrong policies of the Pakistan government.
India exposed the brutality of Pakistan government
Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘The protests taking place in the illegally occupied areas of Pakistan are the result of the old policies of the government there for decades. These policies include economic exploitation, violation of fundamental rights and repression of common citizens by the administration. In response, the Pakistani government used police brutality, stopping the supply of essential goods and medicines, shutting down the internet and deadly attacks against unarmed civilians.
Khawaja Asif’s barking on Indus Water Treaty
Reiterating its stand on the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), India on Friday made it clear that the treaty will remain in abeyance until Pakistan completely and credibly stops cross-border terrorism. On this, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had said that if Pakistan felt that its water security was in danger then it would not back down from military action against India.
While talking to Pakistan News Channel, he had said, ‘Water is an important part of Pakistan’s national security. If India tries to stop the flow of Indus River, it will be seen as a serious threat. We will not hesitate to wage war against India.
India called the Court of Arbitration illegal
Last month too, India had rejected the decision of the so-called Court of Arbitration, allegedly constituted under the Indus Water Treaty, 1960, calling it illegal. MEA had said that on May 15, 2026, the illegally constituted so-called arbitration court had issued a decision in the matter related to the interpretation of the Indus Water Treaty and the maximum water storage capacity, which India completely rejects.
India took action after Pahalgam terrorist attack
The Indus Water Treaty was signed between India and Pakistan on 19 September 1960. This treaty is related to the water use of the rivers of the Indus River System. After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam last year, India had decided to suspend the treaty using its sovereign rights under international law. India says the treaty will not be reinstated until Pakistan credibly and permanently stops supporting cross-border terrorism.
