Petrol-Diesel Rate on June 6: Today, on June 5, 2026, the prices of petrol and diesel in the country have remained stable after increasing the rates several times in the last few weeks. Global crude oil prices are fluctuating due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia and disruptions in energy supply due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, market experts are closely monitoring the possibility of another change in fuel prices.

Why were the prices increased?

The recent increase in fuel prices is mainly due to rising international crude oil prices and increasing pressure on state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs). Industry estimates show that despite price increases several times in the month of May, OMCs are still incurring significant losses (under-recovery) on the sale of petrol and diesel. Reports indicate that the scale of losses is so great that there is speculation that prices may rise further to turn a profit.

How much has increased so far?

Fuel prices have increased rapidly in the last few weeks. Since May 15, the prices of petrol and diesel have been increased several times, due to which their prices have increased by about Rs 7.5 per liter in many cities. Oil companies gradually increased these prices to compensate for the rising costs of procurement and refining amid ongoing fluctuations in the energy market.
