West Bengal Politics: The politics of West Bengal is currently going through a period of great turmoil, where after the electoral setback, the wave of rebellion within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) seems to be intensifying. The situation in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s party has become so serious that news of resignations and formation of separate factions are coming out from Lok Sabha to Rajya Sabha.
The claim of about 20 out of 28 TMC Lok Sabha MPs joining the rebel group and supporting the NDA has increased the concern of the party leadership. This rebel group is being led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who was once considered the strongest parliamentary pillar of the party. The discussion of many big names including Shatabdi Roy, Mithali Bagh, Sayoni Ghosh joining them has deepened this crisis.
Close friends left us
The most shocking name in this entire incident is that of Sayoni Ghosh, who is considered close to Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee and an emerging youth leader of TMC. Sayoni, who was known for her aggressive style and vocal voice in favor of the party, suddenly came into limelight when the news of her meeting with Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav came to light.
During this time, the presence of West Bengal leader Subhendu Adhikari further fueled the political speculations. The special thing was that Sayoni’s changed appearance in jeans, cap, mask and glasses also became a topic of discussion, due to which questions were raised whether she was trying to avoid the media. However, till now he has not given any official response to these reports.
On the other hand, the scope of dissatisfaction within TMC is not limited to the Lok Sabha only. Even in the Rajya Sabha, the resignation of leaders like Sushmita Dev, Sukhendu Shekhar Roy and Prakash Chik Badaik has increased the party’s problems. After Sushmita Dev’s resignation, her meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has given new indications about her political future. At the same time, the rebel MPs have also written a letter to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha demanding recognition as a separate faction, making it clear that this dissatisfaction has now turned into open rebellion.
Questions on strategy due to rebellion
TMC leadership is viewing this entire incident as a serious challenge. After the elections, Mamata Banerjee had tried to strengthen the party through organizational reshuffle, but the rebellion has raised questions on that strategy. There is also discussion within the party that dissatisfaction with the leadership and internal strife have given rise to this crisis.
This development in the politics of West Bengal is not just a dispute within a party, but can also affect the balance of power in the state in the future. Now the biggest challenge before TMC is to maintain its unity and limit the influence of rebel leaders, while the opposition is trying to capitalize on this opportunity in its favor.
