Toledo Shooting: There was chaos in the city of Toledo in the US state of Ohio on Saturday afternoon when there was a sudden firing near a community street festival. The incident took place near the historic Old West End Festival, following which a large number of police and emergency teams reached the spot. Many people were injured in the firing and panic spread in the entire area.
Suddenly bullets were fired near the festival
According to the police, a report of firing was received near the festival at around 5:30 pm local time. When officers reached the spot, they found that many people had been injured by bullets. The injured were immediately admitted to nearby hospitals. Initially the number of injured was not clear, but later Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz informed that a total of 8 people were shot and all are expected to survive.

Admitted to hospitals, police increased security
Police said that all the injured have been sent to different hospitals for treatment. After the incident, heavy police force was deployed in the entire area and security was tightened. Officials said that the attacker has not been identified yet and he is being searched. Investigating agencies are investigating the matter in depth.
There was chaos during the festival
The incident occurred while the Old West End Festival was underway, a popular two-day community event in Toledo. The festival features activities such as live music, food stalls, shopping and house tours and marks the beginning of the city’s summer festival season. During the firing, there was panic among the people present there and people started running here and there to save their lives.
Eyewitnesses described a horrifying scene
Eyewitnesses said that suddenly the whole atmosphere turned into panic due to the sound of gunshots. Eyewitness Kevin Berry said he was listening to music with friends at the nearby Arboretum when several gunshots were heard. “Everyone lay down on the ground,” he said.
Berry also observed that a weapon was thrown a short distance from the scene and the police immediately reached the spot. Berry, a former Navy soldier, said he tried to help the injured people and saw at least five people being shot. Other people also told that after firing several rounds, people started running here and there in panic.
Administration’s response and investigation ongoing
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said summer festivals should be safe for families and he hoped law enforcement agencies would soon catch the culprits. Police have appealed to the people to stay away from that area for the time being and share any information to help in the investigation.
Increasing incidents of mass shooting in America
The incident is one of at least 170 mass shooting incidents recorded in the US this year. According to the Gun Violence Archive, such incidents involve four or more people being shot. At present the police is investigating the matter and security has been tightened in the area.
