The final match of IPL 2026 was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by defeating Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets.
Royal Challengers Bangalore has won the title for the second consecutive time in IPL history. Gujarat Titans won the last IPL trophy title in 2022. This final was a do or die match for Gujarat Titans.
After the result of the match, former veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar expressed his displeasure and blamed BCCI. Sunil Gavaskar said that BCCI should have used the reserve day.
Actually, Gujarat Titans’ preparation for the final match was not good at all, because due to bad weather, Gujarat Titans team reached Ahmedabad very late. After defeating Rajasthan Royals in the Qualifier-2 match played on Friday, the Gujarat Titans team had to fly to Ahmedabad on a chartered flight on Saturday afternoon.
But due to the strong storm and rain that hit many parts of North-West India including Punjab, all the work at the Chandigarh airport came to a standstill and due to the delay in departure of the flight, the Gujarat Titans team reached Ahmedabad around 10:30. Due to this, the Gujarat Titans team got less than 18 hours to prepare.
Due to which the Gujarat Titans team may not have got the opportunity to play in the form they wanted in a big match like the final.
Questions raised on BCCI
For the first time in IPL history, it was seen that a team had come to play such a long distance a day before the final match. Gujarat Titans fans including Sunil Gavaskar also looked unhappy with BCCI’s decision of not giving reserve day.
After this match, all the fans of Gujarat Titans remembered the match of 2023. In 2023 also, due to rain, the match played between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans was put on the reserve day. However, Chennai Super Kings won the match due to the sixes and fours hit by Ravindra Jadeja.
