Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Team India had to face defeat by 4 wickets in the second T20 against England. In the match played in Manchester last Saturday (04 July), host England achieved a one-sided victory while chasing the target of 190 runs given by India. With this defeat, Shreyas once again proved to be a poor captain.
Iyer played his first series as India’s T20 captain against Ireland. In this series, Men in Blue had to face defeat by 0-2. This was the first time that Team India had faced defeat against Ireland in any series or any match. If we look at Iyer’s last 10 matches as captain, he has been a complete flop, because his team had won only 1 out of 10 matches.

Iyer has played four T20s for India as captain, in which one match remained inconclusive due to rain (the first T20 against England). Faced defeat in the remaining three T20s (2 matches against Ireland and the second match against England). These were 3 matches in which Team India under the captaincy of Shreyas lost.
Now let’s go before that. Shreyas was earlier seen captaining Punjab Kings in IPL 2026. In the last 7 league matches of the season, his team had won only 1 match and lost the remaining 6.
In this way, including 7 matches of IPL and 3 matches for Team India (excluding the canceled ones), Iyer has won only 1 match as captain in the last 10 matches.
Now the Indian team has to play the next i.e. third T20 against England on Tuesday (07 July). It will be interesting to see how the Indian team performs in this match.
