The investigation has intensified in the case of Constable Kaustubh Sangle of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) Group-16, Kolhapur, allegedly committing suicide with his service SLR rifle while on duty at Maharashtra Lok Bhavan located in Malabar Hill, high security area of Mumbai. In the initial investigation, police and SRPF are investigating many aspects.
According to the information, Kaustubh Sangle was an SRPF constable of the year 2024 batch. After completing his training, he was posted in Mumbai. He reached Mumbai on June 10 and was assigned duty at Maharashtra Lok Bhawan, which is considered a very sensitive and high security complex of the state government. DCP Ragasuda R said that he took this step due to some personal reasons. Police have found a suicide note from Kaustubh, we are investigating it.

Took suicidal step while on duty
According to sources, on Monday, Kaustubh’s duty was at Tower-2 of Lok Bhavan from 6 pm to 9 pm. In SRPF, security duty is changed every three hours. It is being told that while on duty he went to a roomy place and shot himself with his service SLR rifle. He died on the spot after being hit by a 7.62 mm SLR bullet.
At around 9 pm, when the soldier of the next shift arrived to relieve him, he saw blood and immediately informed the senior officers. After this there was a commotion in the Lok Bhavan premises. Malabar Hill Police and senior police officers reached the spot. Police seized the weapon and started forensic investigation.
Police also investigated love affair
According to sources, the angle of love affair has also come to light in the investigation. It is being told that Kaustubh had a love affair with a female police constable, who is posted in Mira-Bhayandar Police. There was a relationship between the two for a long time and there was talk of marriage.
However, later the female constable allegedly refused to marry. After this her family fixed her marriage with another police constable. Sources say that after this incident, Kaustubh started living under deep mental stress.
Sent pictures to the future groom
Sources related to the investigation claim that after the marriage of the woman constable was fixed, Kaustubh allegedly sent many personal photographs of himself with the woman to her future husband. Police are investigating what was the motive behind sending these pictures and whether it had created any dispute between the two parties.
Threatened to commit suicide several times
According to sources, Kaustubh had called the woman constable several times and threatened her to commit suicide. It is being told that the woman constable had already informed the Bhayandar Police in this regard that Kaustubh could take such a step.
Now the investigating agencies are finding out what action was taken after this information, whether senior officials were informed about it and whether counseling or other assistance was provided to him at any level.
Family life was also difficult
Kaustubh’s family circumstances have also come to light in the investigation. According to sources, his mother died when he was young. Later his father remarried. He had two sisters, one of whom had committed suicide several years ago, while the other was married. Police are also investigating whether family circumstances and recent events had any impact on his mental health.
Mental health assessment will also be examined
An important aspect of the investigation is also the internal process of SRPF. According to sources, the police and SRPF are finding out whether the mental health evaluation of the soldiers, which is done at scheduled intervals, was done on time for Kaustubh or not. Malabar Hill Police has informed SRPF officials about this matter. Police have registered accidental death (ADR) and started investigation.
