Due to the scorching heat in many parts of the country including North India, it has become difficult for people to go out of their homes. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), severe heat and heat wave will continue in many parts of North and Central India throughout this week. There is a possibility of heavy rain this week in North Eastern India (between 21 to 25 May), Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Alert of heavy rain in these states
According to the Meteorological Department, there will be light rain in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh till May 21, while there is a possibility of heavy rain between May 22 and 25. An alert of heavy rain has been issued in these three states on 23 and 24 May. Rain with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour has been predicted in Andaman-Nicobar, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal between May 19 and 25.
Fear of storm in Bihar, Bengal, Kerala
Strong dust storm (50-60 km/hr) may also occur in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha for a few days between 19th and 23rd May. There is a possibility of rain in Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep between 19 and 25 May. There is a possibility of strong storm in Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema between 19 and 23 May. There are chances of light rain in Konkan, Goa and Central Maharashtra on 19 and 20 May.
There may be light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in the hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between May 19 and 23, while strong thunderstorms may also occur in Jammu and Kashmir on May 19 and 21. Strong and dusty winds will blow at a speed of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour during the day between May 19 and 25 in the plains of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. There is a possibility of light rain and thunderstorm in Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on May 19.
People of Delhi, UP will not get relief from heat
After May 19, the temperature in Maharashtra and Gujarat may drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, which will provide some relief from the heat there. However, the temperature will remain hot in the rest of the country. The Meteorological Department has issued a special warning for many states including Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. According to IMD, there will be severe heat wave in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Odisha this week.
