A big update has come regarding the return of India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra. Neeraj is ready to participate in Doha Diamond League 2026 to be held from June 19. The organizers of the event released the entry list on Monday (June 15), which somehow confirmed Neeraj’s return.

This will be the first competition of 2026 for Neeraj. Till now he was recovering from a back injury in Switzerland. Neeraj is participating in a 47-day off-season practice camp along with physio Ishan Marwaha and coach Jai Chaudhary. Neeraj was last seen playing in the 2025 Athletics Championship held in Tokyo, in which he finished 8th.

Let us tell you that Neeraj’s name is included in the entry of Doha Diamond League. It is worth noting that his name was not in the list released earlier on June 12. Last year this tournament was very good for Neeraj. He had crossed the 90 meter mark with his throw in the 2025 Doha Diamond League.

IPL 2026 broke all previous records of viewership, so many crore people watched the 19th season live.

This was the first time in Neeraj’s career that he had thrown the javelin a distance of 90 meters or more. With this he had also set a new national record. However, Neeraj’s career best throw could not win the title, because Germany’s Julian Weber won the title by throwing 91.06 meters javelin in the sixth and last round.

Current world champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago and Rumesh Taranga Pathirage of Sri Lanka, who recently threw a throw of 92.62 meters in the Rome Diamond League, will also participate in the Doha Diamond League. Whereas the name of Paris Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan is not in the list.

Neeraj Chopra’s name also included in the list of Commonwealth Games

Chopra’s name has also been included with conditions in the Indian athletics team released on Sunday for the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games. For this he will have to achieve the Indian Athletics Federation’s qualification mark of 82.61 meters. If he participates in next month’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, three javelin throwers from India will present a challenge. Rohit Yadav and Yashveer have qualified through Indian Athletics Series 9. The Commonwealth Games are to be held between 23 July and 02 August.
