There is going to be a reshuffle once again in Pakistan cricket. Now the blame is going to fall on Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood. The captain of Pakistan’s Test team is about to change. According to a report, Salman Aga can be made the captain of the Test team in place of Shan Masood. Masood’s last three years as Test captain have been disappointing.
Shan Masood has captained in 16 Test matches since the Australia tour in December 2023. During this period, Pakistan has faced defeat in 12 test matches. The defeat against Bangladesh last month was their fourth consecutive defeat.
In the 150-year history of Test cricket, Shan Masood is the only captain among the top nine countries, barring Bangladesh, Ireland and Afghanistan, to have lost his first 12 Test matches. According to sources, Masood has requested Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi not to remove him to maintain continuity, but Naqvi has made up his mind to remove him from the Test captaincy after the poor performance of the team under the leadership of Shan Masood.
Last year, Pakistan stood ninth in the third cycle of the World Test Championship. According to TelecomAsia’s report, “Naqvi is now fed up with Masood. He and his advisors feel that Aga is the best candidate to replace Masood as there are two tough Test matches to be played in the West Indies and three in England in the next few months.”
Before the England tour, Pakistan will play two test matches in Trinidad, which will start from July 25. The first Test in England will be played in Leeds from 19th August. Masood also failed as a batsman in the two-Test series and was able to score only one half-century in four innings, due to which it has become difficult to retain his place in the team.
In the coaching staff, former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed will remain as head coach and Umar Gul will remain as bowling coach. A new batting coach can be appointed for the Caribbean tour.
According to the report, PCB is also considering making former captain Mohammad Hafeez as ‘Director International Cricket’. This department can be important to get a better cricket schedule and keep an eye on the progress of the players. However, Hafeez told TelecomAsia that he has not received any offer yet, but if any offer is received, he will consider it.
