The three-tier Panchayat elections 2026 in Uttar Pradesh will now be held only after the Assembly elections 2027. The tenure of 57, 694 Gram Panchayats of the state is ending on May 26, after which administrators will be appointed, this time the government has accepted the demand of appointing village heads to the post of administrators.
Since Panchayat elections were not being held on time due to delay in forming the commission regarding OBC reservation, the government has now decided to appoint administrators. The Gram Pradhan Sangh had also demanded from the government to appoint him to this post. Whereas before this the ADO Panchayat was appointed as the administrator.

Elections postponed due to OBC reservation
Let us tell you here that the tenure of Gram Panchayats in the state is ending on 26th May. The reason for this is that the Backward Classes Commission could not be formed on time, apart from this, the renewal of the voter list is incomplete and petitions are also pending in the High Court. Seeing the postponement of elections due to all these reasons, the government has now talked about appointing administrators on Gram Panchayats.
Relief to village heads
Village heads have expressed relief from this step of the state government, according to them, appointing officers to the post of administrators affects the work of Gram Panchayats. Now with the presence of village heads the work will be able to run smoothly. Although the government has constituted the Backward Classes Commission, there will be a delay in receiving its report. Therefore, now Panchayat elections will be held next year i.e. only after the assembly elections 2027.
Not only this, when the Panchayat elections in the state were not held on time, the opposition parties had also raised questions on the ruling BJP, alleging that there was a deliberate delay in the formation of the Backward Classes Commission, due to which the elections could not be held on time. SP alleged that BJP was afraid of defeat. Therefore postpone the elections.
