After the encounter of Kamlesh Chaudhary, the main accused in the murder case of Vineet Rai, son of a hotelier in Ghazipur, UP, the whole matter has now turned into caste politics. A day after the encounter, there was tension in the area due to attacks on police and stone pelting during the last rites.
An FIR was registered in the case on May 30 after the murder of Vineet Rai on May 29. On June 2, the police announced a reward of Rs 50 thousand on the accused and on June 3, Kamlesh Chaudhary was encountered. On June 4, during the funeral, Kamlesh’s supporters pelted stones at the police, in which four policemen were injured. “Strict action will be taken against those creating trouble,” SP Iraj Raja warned.

SP’s serious allegation
Samajwadi Party has made serious allegations against the government. SP MP Virendra Singh said that encounters are being conducted in UP on the basis of caste and religion. He claimed, “PDA (Backward, Dalit, Minority) people are being shot above the waist.” SP says that Kamlesh Chaudhary was targeted because he belonged to the backward class and was also a SP worker. The remaining three accused are still absconding.
BJP’s counterattack
BJP spokesperson Anand Dubey completely rejected SP’s allegations and said, “Kamlesh Chaudhary was a professional criminal. Many serious cases were already registered against him. The encounter did not take place on the basis of any caste or religion, but on the basis of criminal tendencies.”
Family’s allegation of fake encounter
Kamlesh’s family has accused the police of fake encounter. He said that Kamlesh was in Bihar at the time of the incident, yet the police picked him up and encountered him. The family has also accused hotel owner Alok Rai of being associated with the Katra gang and running prostitution. A case has been registered against 6 named and 40-50 unidentified people who attacked the police in the uproar during the last journey.
