Amidst the ongoing war in the Middle East, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir had gone on a visit to Iran. This visit was special because he is the first foreign leader to visit Iran during the war. Asim Munir is seen as a person whose relations are considered strong with both America and Iran.
According to Fox News report, when he was the head of Pakistan’s Military Intelligence in 2016 and 2017, he started building relations with Iran. He maintained constant contact with the Iranian government, intelligence agencies and especially the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Pakistani retired General Ahmed Saeed said, ‘Asim Munir’s relations are not limited to IRGC only, but he has also been associated with Iran’s army and intelligence system. He even has personal relationships with some of Iran’s top military leaders, including Qassem Soleimani and Hossein Salami. Pakistani retired General Ahmed Saeed said in an interview to Fox News, ‘Munir is talking with the leadership. He is talking to the intelligence community. He is in talks with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Bill Rogio, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said, ‘Trump should not trust the Pakistanis and Munir’s ties to the IRGC are a red flag for the US. In matters related to Afghanistan, Pakistan has been pretending to be our friend and supporting Afghanistan. He is a fraud. Meanwhile, Pakistani analyst Raza Rumi also raised questions on the role of Munir. He said, ‘The rise of people like Munir only shows how the military is rapidly outpacing civilian leadership in Pakistan.’
Munir had gone on a three-day tour to Iran
Asim Munir recently completed a three-day visit to Iran, where he met the Iranian President, Foreign Minister, Speaker of Parliament and military leadership. The purpose of this visit was to take forward the talks towards a peace agreement. Now the news is that the next round of talks between America and Iran can be held in Islamabad soon, from which it is clear that Pakistan is playing the role of an important mediator in this whole matter.
