Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a big claim before the final of IPL 2026 and said that he wants to score the first double century in T20 cricket. With this claim, Suryavanshi has also created a threat of breaking Chris Gayle’s record. Currently, the record of making the highest individual score in T20 cricket is held in the name of Gayle.

Vaibhav expressed his desire to score his first double century in T20 cricket.

Let us tell you that till now no batsman has been able to score a double century in T20 cricket. Recently, while talking to former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen’s show The Switch, Vaibhav said, “I want to score 200 runs in T20 cricket.” In response to this, Pietersen says, “There is a record of 175 runs in Gayle’s name.” Then Vaibhav says, “I want to break his (Chris Gayle) record and score 200 runs in T20.”

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s strong performance in IPL 2026

Vaibhav’s bat is speaking strongly in the current IPL. He is at 5th position in the list of batsmen who have scored the most runs. By the end of the league stage, Vaibhav has scored 583 runs in 14 innings of 14 matches at an average of 41.64 and strike rate of 232.27.

Fastest century in IPL (as an Indian batsman)

In the name of Vaibhav, there is a record of scoring the fastest century as an Indian batsman in the history of IPL. He created history by completing a century in 35 balls against Gujarat Titans in the 2025 IPL. Overall Vaibhav is the second batsman to score the fastest century in the history of the Indian Premier League.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s T20 career

Vaibhav has played 32 matches in his T20 career so far. Batting in 32 innings of these matches, he has scored 1284 runs at an average of 41.41 and strike rate of 216.16. During this period, he has scored 4 centuries and 4 half-centuries, in which the high score was 144 runs.
