If you are preparing for a government job and wish to do administrative work while living in a village, then the post of Panchayat Secretary can be a good option for you. This job is under the state government and in different states its recruitment is done through the respective Staff Selection Commission. First of all, it is important to know that the recruitment of Panchayat Secretary is not the same in the entire country. Every state decides the recruitment process according to its own rules. Like recruitment in Bihar is done by Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC). In Jharkhand, this responsibility rests with Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), whereas in Haryana, Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) recruits for the posts of Village Secretary. Some recruitments in Madhya Pradesh are done through examination, while in some cases merit and experience are also made the basis.
What is the selection process like?
In most states, candidates have to appear for a written examination. In many states, first preliminary (Prelims) and then mains examination is conducted. Document Verification is done for the candidates who successfully pass both the stages. After this, appointment is given on the basis of final merit.
Who can apply?
To become Panchayat Secretary, it is generally necessary to have graduation from a recognized university. However, in some states, 12th pass candidates are also given the opportunity to apply. Apart from this, basic knowledge of computer is also considered important. In many states, certificate of CCC, CPCT or any recognized computer course is required.

Talking about age, the minimum age for general category candidates is 18 years and maximum age is around 38 years. However, reserved category candidates get age relaxation as per government rules.
How much salary do you get?
In most of the states, the salary of this post is given under Level-4 or Level-5 pay matrix. The initial basic pay can be between Rs 21,700 to Rs 25,500. Apart from basic salary, dearness allowance (DA), house rent allowance (HRA) and other government allowances are also available. After adding these, the initial in-hand salary can reach around Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 per month. There may be slight differences in HRA and other allowances according to the city and state.
