What is state quota?

Who has the responsibility of state quota counselling?
At the national level, counseling for 15 percent All India Quota is done by the Medical Council Committee. Under this, any eligible candidate of the country can apply for these seats in government medical colleges. The counseling authority of the respective state grants admission to the 85 percent state quota seats and only those candidates can apply for these seats, who fulfill the prescribed eligibility conditions of the state.
Who can apply?
The rules of state quota are not the same in all the states, so in some states the application is allowed only on the basis of domicile certificate. Whereas in many states, the school education or residence period of the candidate is also made the basis of eligibility. Mainly in states like Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Sikkim, state domicile certificate is considered necessary. At the same time, candidates who have completed their studies up to the prescribed classes from schools in states like Delhi, Assam and Goa can also be eligible for state quota. Candidates having domicile in Maharashtra and residing in the state for a long time are considered eligible. Apart from this, in many states including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, eligibility is decided on the basis of residence certificate, domicile, nativity or other documents. In some states, there is a separate provision for children of government employees or defense employees.

Which documents are required to apply for state quota?
During state quota counselling, candidates have to submit the documents prescribed by the state government. These may generally include domicile certificate, residence certificate, nativity certificate and other important certificates. How to apply for state quota counselling?
After the start of the state counseling process, candidates will have to visit the official counseling website of the respective state and register online. After this, processes like document verification, choice filling, seat allotment and reporting will have to be completed.
