After the end of the war between America and Iran, now the eyes of the whole world are once again fixed on the Strait of Hormuz. The global oil supply chain is expected to return to normal after the US and Iran agreed to immediately end military operations on all fronts and not to use force against each other. In such a situation, the biggest question is whether the same number of ships are still passing through Hormuz before the Iran-America war?
How many ships pass through Hormuz every day?
According to Kpler data, which provides real-time tracking of ships, trade through the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted due to recent attacks in the Middle East. Now the situation is gradually improving and an average of 40 ships are moving through here every day. However, the dispute still continues regarding control over Hormuz. Iran claims its authority on this route, while America says that no country has any right to stop the movement of ships on this international route.
What was the situation of Hormuz before the war?
The number of ships currently passing through Hormzu during the war is better in numbers, but it is much less than before. Before the war, on an average about 100 ships passed here every day. This means that ships are moving through Hormuz, but not at full speed. The situation was worst during the war. From March 1 to June 17, only 13 ships were passing through this route daily.
Under the agreement between Iran and America, the US has to completely lift the naval blockade on Iranian ports by July 19. Iran says that it will allow the movement of ships through Hormuz as before. However, no final decision has been taken yet regarding who will have control over this sea route. Under the agreement, no fee will be charged from ships passing through here for 60 days.
Shipping through Hormuz reaches record level: Trump
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump said that shipping from Hormuz has reached a record level and predicted further decline in oil prices. He said, ‘Ships are coming out of Hormuz. Boats are coming out in such large numbers that they have never been seen before. Actually we are making records. Oil prices are falling. I don’t care if they’re happy or sad, I want the prices to go down. Oil prices are falling faster than anyone could have imagined, but I told you it would happen. We have complete control over everything.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that any attempt to challenge Iran’s control over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz would further escalate tensions. This statement has come at a time when peace talks are going on to end the ongoing war in the Middle East. “Attempts to adopt any new or separate agreement separate from the existing arrangements being made by the Islamic Republic of Iran will only further complicate the situation, delay the reopening of Hormuz and increase tensions, as we have seen over the past two nights,” Araghchi said.
