Ajinkya Rahane IPL: Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane announced his retirement from international cricket on Thursday (July 30). Rahane was out of Team India for almost 3 years. After 2018, he was mainly playing Test cricket. He last played the Test in July 2023. Due to not getting a place, 38 year old Rahane decided to retire. Now the question is arising whether he will continue playing IPL after retirement?

In IPL, Rahane is seen playing as captain for Kolkata Knight Riders for the last two seasons. In the last IPL of 2026, he played the role of captain for KKR. So let us know whether Rahane will continue playing for KKR after retirement or not. Like MS Dhoni continued playing IPL after retiring from international cricket in 2020. Will Rahane also do the same?

Will Rahane continue playing IPL after retirement?

Announcing his retirement, Rahane shared a video, in which he told that he is retiring from international cricket as well as all formats of cricket. This only shows that now Rahane will not play even in IPL. Therefore, KKR will have to look for a new captain for the next season. However, till now nothing has been clarified about his play even by the Knight Riders franchise.

Shikhar Dhawan also retired in 2024. Dhawan was seen playing for Punjab Kings in IPL in the 2024 season. But after retirement he did not even play IPL. Dhawan had said goodbye to all formats of cricket.

Ajinkya Rahane’s IPL career

If we look at Rahane’s IPL career, till now he has played 212 matches, batting in 197 innings and scoring 5367 runs at an average of 30.15 and strike rate of 125.60. During this period, he scored 2 centuries and 35 half-centuries.
