Taking suo motu cognizance of the suspicious death of a newlywed in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, the National Commission for Women has directed the State Director General of Police to take immediate action. The Commission has also sought a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR) in the matter within seven days.
This case is of Jalpura village of Ecotech-3 police station area of Greater Noida, where newly married Deepika Nagar died under suspicious circumstances. The family members have accused the in-laws of dowry harassment and murder.
Postmortem report reveals serious injuries
In the postmortem report, marks of many serious injuries have been found on the body of the deceased. According to the report, about 12 cm long swelling was recorded on the right face, deep injuries on the left hand and elbow, a long pressure mark on the right thigh and a serious wound on the left knee.
Apart from this, injuries on the waist and lower abdomen, abrasion marks around the hands and bleeding from the left ear have also been confirmed. The report also revealed conditions like hematoma in the brain, rupture of the spleen and severe bleeding within the body, which are considered to be signs of severe violent trauma.
The viscera has been preserved and sent for testing for toxic substances.

The deceased’s mother, Saroj Nagar, told the media that she received information late in the night that her daughter had fallen from the terrace, but no clear information was given regarding the circumstances of the incident. The family alleges that the daughter was being harassed for dowry for the last several months.
The National Commission for Women has sought detailed information from the police on the FIR, arrest, status of investigation, electronic and forensic evidence, postmortem report and the role of all those involved in dowry harassment.
The Commission has also asked whether legal aid, protection and compensation was provided to the victim’s family or not, and has also sought information about steps taken to prevent such cases in future.
NCW has said that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated in cases of dowry harassment and crimes against women and strict action is necessary against the culprits.
