The 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill could not be passed by the Lok Sabha on Friday (April 17, 2026). On this, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary (Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary) Said that the scene seen in the Lok Sabha was contrary to the expectations of the country’s women power.
Samrat Chaudhary said that it is extremely unfortunate that the opposition parties have blocked the historic constitutional amendment like “Nari Shakti Vandan Act”, which would have paved the way for giving 33% representation to women. This is not just opposition to a bill, but the opposition is rejecting the rights, respect and opportunity of participation of half the country’s population.
‘Its echo will go far’
He said, “This fight to give women their rights will not stop, it will become a public sentiment and reach every home, every society and every election. This insult to women power is not going to stop here, its echo will go far. Those who become obstacles in the way of women’s rights and respect will definitely get the public’s answer.”
What did Tejashwi Yadav say?
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has also given his reaction on this. Through his X post, Tejashwi Yadav said that the failure of the Constitution Amendment Bill, which was brought in the Lok Sabha today with the wrong intention of changing the Constitution under the guise of the Women’s Reservation Bill, proves that on the strength of majority, you cannot strangle public sentiments, violate constitutional limits, and disturb the rights of opposition parties and regional balance in the name of delimitation.
He said that the rock-solid unity of the opposition has once again proved today that playing with the country’s democratic values, traditions, democratic structure, Constitution and the rights of women from Dalits, backward and minority classes will not be tolerated.
‘Fall of the amendment bill…’
The RJD leader said that the failure of the Constitution Amendment Bill shows that the NDA government did not even have solid moral and constitutional arguments in favor of this bill, which was brought in politically hastily, without all-party consensus and country-wide discussion. Calling a special Parliament session to amend the already unanimously passed Nari Shakti Vandan Act and presenting it was a low level hypocrisy, trick and propaganda done only for political gains in the assembly elections being held in various states.
