Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India Gyanesh Kumar has announced the program of thorough revision of the voter list. In a press conference held on Tuesday, October 27, at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital Delhi, CEC Gyanesh Kumar released the list of states where the SIR process will be adopted. The voter list of the states where SIR is to be held has been frozen at 12 o’clock tonight. The states where CEC has announced the SIR process include Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
Printing and training will take place in the above mentioned five states from October 28 to November 3, 2025. After this, house numbering form will be given from 4th November to 4th December. Then the draft of electoral rolls will be published on 9 December 2025. Time will be given from 9 December 2025 to 8 January 2026 to file objections and claims. During this period, the notice phase will be from 9 December 2025 to 31 January 2026. The final electoral roll will be published by 7 February 2026.
There will not be more than 1200 voters at each booth.
Gyanesh Kumar said that the names of all the people of a family will be there at one booth, this provides convenience to the voters. There will not be more than 1200 voters at each booth. Some new polling booths will be built which also includes high rise societies.
SIR has happened 8 times from 1951 to 2004
CEC said that the objective of SIR is to include eligible voters and exclude the ineligible ones from the list. SIR will be launched in 12 states and union territories in the second phase. He told that from 1951 to 2004, SIR has happened 8 times. All political parties had till now complained about deficiencies in the voter list.
BLO will visit every house at least 3 times
He said that the enumeration forms will be printed for all the voters today itself. Every BLO will visit every house at least 3 times. Voters living outside can also fill EF online. There will be no need to fill any other document or form at the time of enumeration form. Gyanesh Kumar said that after that a draft list will be made whose EF will be returned. Notices will be sent to voters whose linking will not be possible so that they can provide their information.
