Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has refused to sign the new central contracts given to national players after finding himself included in Category B. According to a reliable source, among the 30 players who have received new contracts, Rizwan is the only one who has not signed the contract.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has removed the prestigious Category A by offering new contracts, which were earlier offered only to Babar Azam, Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
By removing the A category, the board wants to give a clear message to the players that it is not satisfied with their performance in the last one year. This time the board has kept 10 players including these three experienced players in Category B.
However, Rizwan had recently made it clear to the board that he would sign the contract only if the board resolved some of his complaints. The source said that these demands of Rizwan have been made after he was removed from the post of captain of the ODI team.
Rizwan has requested the board to keep him and other senior players in the A category as before and has also made it clear that while appointing anyone as captain, the board should give him a clear tenure and time to carry out his plans.
Rizwan has not been selected in Pakistan’s T20 team since December 2024. He was recently removed from the post of captain of the ODI team. In his place, this responsibility has been given to Shaheen Shah Afridi.
