Cold is at its peak in North India at this time. Apart from the capital Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Bihar are experiencing severe winter. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of light to moderate rain in many states. Also, the possibility of cold wave continuing in UP, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan has been expressed.
It is extremely cold in Delhi and surrounding areas at this time. Even though the sun is shining during the day, it is extremely cold in the morning and evening. On the morning of January 15, the minimum temperature in the capital was recorded at 2.9 degrees Celsius, which was the coldest morning of this season. Earlier on January 7, 2013, the minimum temperature here was 2.6 degrees. Today on Friday also the weather pattern of Delhi-NCR will remain the same.
Weather changed in UP
The weather has suddenly taken a turn again in Uttar Pradesh. Till now, people had started getting some relief due to sunshine in the afternoon, whereas from Thursday night the cold increased. Today (Friday) a severe fog is being seen in the morning. A forecast of rain has been issued in some parts of UP on January 19 and 20, due to which the cold may increase further.
In the capital Lucknow, it is hot during the day and freezing cold at night. Wednesday night was the coldest night of the season as the mercury was recorded at 5.5 degrees Celsius. However, there was good sunshine during the day on Thursday. The mercury was recorded at 20.7 degrees Celsius due to sunshine. A difference of 15.2 degrees Celsius was observed between day and night.
Meteorologist told the reason
Fog is being seen in many areas of UP today. According to meteorology, there is a possibility of increase in night temperature also. Atul Kumar Singh, senior scientist of Lucknow Meteorological Center located in Amausi, said that the reason for the large difference in mercury between day and night is the complete removal of the fog layer. While the day is getting hotter due to the clear sky, the night is also getting colder faster after the sun sets.
Severe cold in Punjab- Haryana
The cold wave continued due to falling mercury at many places in Punjab-Haryana on Thursday. According to the Meteorological Department, Hisar was the coldest among the two states and the minimum temperature here was recorded 0.2 degrees Celsius, 6 degrees below normal. In many parts of Haryana and Punjab, visibility levels remained very low in the morning due to fog. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature was recorded at 1.5 degrees Celsius in Narnaul, Haryana and 4.6 degrees Celsius in Nuh.
Where will it rain?
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of rain in the next 72 hours in 6 states of North India. There is a possibility of rain in Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh during 16 to 20 January. There may be rain and snowfall at different places in Uttarakhand also. There is a possibility of rain at some places in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh between January 18 and 20, and in Western Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan on January 19 and 20.
